Airport Authority moving forward

The next step for the Griffin-Spalding Airport Authority will be taking over operation of the existing airport.

Following the failure of the transportation sales tax, which the Airport Authority had counted on to fund the purchase and construction of a new, larger business airport, the Authority will seek other funding options. For now, Chairman Dick Morrow said “the way I see it, is we commence the transfer of operations.”

That will take some time as property, equipment, personnel and budget will have to be transferred over from city and county ownership. Each of the Airport Authority’s four committees have been tasked with looking at the respective aspects of doing that — Personnel, Budget & Finance, Property & Assets and Legal & Insurance.
