Four area high school basketball teams will be playing in preseason scrimmages next week. The Griffin High Lady Bears will tip it off with a preseason scrimmage 5:30 p.m., Tuesday at Pike County High School in Zebulon.
The Spalding High girls basketball team is scrimmaging Greene County 6 p.m., Wednesday at Spalding High School. Admission is general at $3 per ticket, payable at the door.
Scrimmaging 5:30 p.m., Thursday at The House are the Griffin High and Spalding High boys.
The regular season begins Nov. 27 for both local schools, Griffin traveling to take on Southside in a 5:30 p.m., doubleheader and Spalding hosting Southwest-Macon in a 6 p.m. doubleheader.
Taylor Street to host hoop tourney
Taylor Street Middle School will host its second annual preseason Gryphon Basketball Classic Monday through Nov. 17. The round-robin tournament will feature boys and girls teams from Cowan Road Middle, Carver Road Middle, Conyers Middle and Taylor street Middle.
Games will start at 4:30 and 5 p.m., Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, 6 and 7:15 p.m. Friday and 10, 11:15 a.m., 12:30 and 1:45 p.m., Saturday with the championship games scheduled to tip off 4:30 and 5 p.m., Saturday.

The Spalding County Parks and Recreation Department is conducting registration for the 2007-08 Men’s Open, Men’s Church, Men’s Industrial, Women’s Open and Women’s Church Basketball Leagues through Nov. 30.
Entry fee is $400. Packages are ready for pick-up and, only team registration will be taken. Payment must be made at the administration office, 601 Camp Northern Rd., Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. No personal checks will be accepted.
