The Griffin High football team continued spring practice this week. Shown here is action from Wednesday. The two-week-long session culminates with the annual Green-N-Gold Game 5 p.m., on Thursday at GHS. The Bears are led by 12th-year head coach Steve DeVoursney. Griffin finished 9-3 last season, upping its school-record string of consecutive state playoff appearances to 11 and going two or more rounds deep in the state playoffs a school-record four consecutive seasons. This fall the Bears move from Region 4-AAA to Region 3-AAAA Div. B where they play in a subregion with Spalding, Upson-Lee, North Clayton, Riverdale and Jonesboro. Non-subregion games come against Dutchtown, Northgate, Woodland-Stockbridge and Stockbridge. Griffin plays its preseason scrimmage Aug. 17 at Newnan and it season opener Aug. 31 at Dutchtown. Those interested in joining the team’s Touchdown Booster Club or donating to it can phone club president Tangela Williams (678) 758-7076 or website director Doug White (678) 435-1772. They can also go to the club’s website (ghstouchdownclub.org) to download a sponsorship or membership application. The site is also welcoming advertising for $175 per ad. He said all of the proceeds go back into the program.
