The Cancer Warriors Support Organization, with the help of the Rotary Club of Griffin, are hosting the third annual Cancer Warriors Celebration Christmas Party, Sunday, Dec. 9, from 3 to 6 p.m. at Kiwanis Event Center.
“We do this because cancer attacks 365 days a year and we want our Warriors to have a few hours where they can relax and not focus on their cancer or treatments,” said Toni Grogan, founder of Cancer Warriors.
Griffin Rotary, the high school Beta and Interact clubs and local merchants will be decorating live Christmas trees donated by local tree farms in honor of cancer survivors or those who lost their battle with cancer. The trees will be raffled off and delivered to Cancer Warrior families the following day.
The celebration is for members on the Cancer Warriors registry and their families and includes games and crafts for children under the age of 12, and a Secret Santa Store for the kids to shop using Santa Bucks won during the games. Santa Claus will also be there for visits with the children.
The Griffin High School Chorus will provide music and Margo’s will be catering dinner, Grogan said. Other participating sponsors include First National Bank of Griffin, Care Master and Express Personnel, Grogan said.
Rick Blackshear will be there to take photos with Santa, and photo packets will be provided to families free of charge.
The Rotary Club of Griffin was awarded a Rotary Foundation Grant to assist the Cancer Warriors. Rotarians will be volunteering with set up, serving, clean up and delivery of the live decorated trees to the winning families the following day.
