DOUGLASVILLE — Griffin Christian split a varsity basketball doubleheader Friday night at Harvester Christian Academy, the Lady Crusaders losing the opener 57-54 in overtime and the GISA Class AA No. 3-state ranked Crusaders winning the nightcap 59-21.

In the girls game, Griffin Christian led 12-5 at the end of the first quarter, 25-22 at the half and 36-31 going into the fourth quarter where team-leading scorer Brittany Foster (14 points and 20 rebounds) fouled out with just under three minutes to play.

“We had trouble getting the ball up the court and scoring after that,” said Lady Crusaders head coach David Hammond.

The two teams finished regulation deadlocked at 50-all. In the overtime period Griffin Christian (7-12, 1-5) was outscored 7-4 as it lost its sixth in a row and Harvester Christian (6-8, 2-4) snapped a three-game losing streak.

Alec Marierose scored a team-high 9 points to lead the Crusaders (14-6 overall, 5-1 GISA Region 4-AA) in the nightcap as they extended their season-best win streak to seven and Harvester Christian (0-14, 0-6) remained winless.

Crusaders head coach Mic Savage rotated three lines of five players each every five minutes. By game’s end everyone had scored at least a point except for one player.

The Crusaders, which currently sit in a three-way tie for first in the region with Furtah and Arlington, face both this week. Griffin Christian travels to Furtah on Tuesday before hosting Arlington on Friday.
