The Spalding County Sheriff’s Office Victim Service Unit will host its annual Day of Remembrance to honor victims of homicide next Tuesday.

Sheriff Wendell Beam has invited the public to this special event, scheduled for 10 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 25, at First United Methodist Church, 1401 Maple Drive, Griffin. Guest speaker will be the church’s senior pastor, Kevin Lobello.

Sponsored by the National Organization of Parents of Murdered Children and the National Center for Victims of Crime, the service will provide an opportunity for the people of Spalding County to unite in remembrance of murder victims, as well as recognize the impact of murder on surviving loved ones, said Victim Service Unit Director Irma Lewis.

There will be counselors and pastors on hand for guidance and comfort, Lewis said. There will also be a special ceremony honoring the local victims during the service.

“We hope you will join us for this service of remembrance, hope and healing,” Lewis said.
