Once out of the car, the driver, Antonio Maurice Barnes, 19, of Griffin, was transported by Spalding Regional Medical Center EMS to a landing zone at Kennedy Road Middle School to be airlifted to Atlanta Medical Center. Barnes was alert and talking with firefighters and medical personnel while in the car, but complained of leg and arm injuries, said Spalding County Fire Department Battalion Chief Jamie Clark.
Clark said crews from Griffin Power had to secure the pole, which was broken about 6 feet up from impact, and cut the power before the driver could be removed. Crews put dampers on the next poles to the north and south of the damaged pole and secured the pole with a third bucket truck.
