The Griffin Board of Commissioners voted Tuesday to call for elections this November for four of the seven commission seats.

The call for elections is for Board of Commissioners districts 1, 3, 5 and 6, with the elections scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013. That vote also established the qualifying fee at $403.20, which is set by state elections code as 3 percent of the gross salary for the prior year.

Qualifying for Board of Commissioners elections begins at 8:30 a.m. Aug. 26 and ends at 4:30 p.m. Aug. 30. The dates, also set by state elections code, “shall commence no earlier than 8:30 a.m., on the last Monday of August, immediately preceding the general election and end no later than 4:30 p.m., on the following Friday.”

The incumbent commissioners are: District 1, Cynthia Ward; District 3, Ryan McLemore; District 5, Dick Morrow; and District 6, Shaheer Beyah. Their terms expire Dec. 31.

The other three commissioners, District 2 Commissioner Cora Flowers, District 4 Commissioner Joanne Todd and at-large Commissioner Doug Hollberg, were elected in 2011 and will be up for election in 2015 as city commissioners serve staggered four-year terms.
