Is there anyone at the Georgia Department of Transportation with any sense?
GDOT is proposing to spend nearly $1.5 million on electronic speed limit signs so that from time to time and on certain sections of I-285, the speed limit can be set to 65 mph. Do they really think that drivers will slow down to 65 mph? Has anyone at GDOT ever driven on I-285 and noticed that hardly any of the vehicles are traveling less that 65 mph? The proposed expenditure of taxpayer dollars is supposed to ease congestion during peak hours. I don’t see how raising the speed limit to 65 mph will make drivers feel any better when 20 mph is as fast as traffic will allow. There must be a unit at GDOT given the responsibility of wasting money.
