The Griffin Police Department (GPD) responded to a residence on McKneely Street on Aug. 19 in reference to a disturbance for the second time.

When police officers arrived at the scene, they made contact with 63-year-old Willie Dewberry, who — according to a GPD incident report — was extremely intoxicated and refused to listen to police. A female, with whom police also made contact at the scene, stated that Dewberry was playing his music loudly, which caused a disturbance in the residence.

As officers advised Dewberry to calm down, he repeatedly stated that this was his house and he could do whatever he wanted. When officers then began to detain Dewberry, he reportedly tensed up and did not want to be in handcuffs.
