Officials say Sandra Black Hobbs, one of the drivers involved in the initial collision who is alleged to be proximate cause of it, suddenly drove her car in reverse and struck Waddell with the door to her vehicle, knocking him to the ground.
Hobbs fled the scene in her vehicle, but Waddell was able to make it to his patrol vehicle in an attempt to pursue Hobbs.
She was ultimately apprehended and arrested for fleeing the scene of a collision, unsafe operation of a motor vehicle and driving under the influence of drugs.
The officer and the suspect were transported to Spalding Regional Medical Center for treatment. Waddell was treated and released, but will not return to duty until a secondary examination by another physician.
The suspect will have an initial court appearance within the next month.
