One of the three children transported by helicopter to Atlanta for medical treatment following a wreck at the intersection of High Falls and North McDonough roads Thursday afternoon remains in critical condition.
Josieanna Arriaga, 5, who suffered serious head injuries as well as wounds to her lower extremities, is currently hospitalized in the Egleston Children’s Hospital intensive care unit.
“She (Josieanna) was sitting behind the passenger seat on the second row in the van, so she sustained most of the impact,” said Trooper Anthony Webb, of the Georgia State Patrol-Griffin Post. “She’s in critical condition — she’s in the ICU. Her tibia — her lower leg — was broken and her foot was actually separated from the bone at the heel. The most serious injury, though, is the head injury she sustained. Her brain is swollen and she’s not responding the way she should be.”
While Josieanna remains hospitalized, the other two children injured in the wreck have been released from Egleston Children’s Hospital.
“The other two children came home Saturday. The two-year-old, Landon Todd, he had some head injuries — lacerations to his head,” Webb said. “The four-year-old, Jason Todd, he had a broken hip. He has a walker and can’t get around very well right now.”
The van driver, Cindy Lynn Fain, was treated and released Thursday evening from Spalding Regional Medical Center.
“She had some complaints of lower back, lower extremity and possibly neck injuries,” Webb said. “She also had lacerations from the wreck debris — minor cuts and bruises.”
Webb determined the Thursday wreck was caused by Solomon Debela, a tractor-trailer driver employed by J.B. Hunt. Debela is accused of driving his truck on a road that allows no through-trucks and also running the stop sign at the High Falls and North McDonough roads intersection.
According to Webb, the investigation is ongoing and there may be additional charges.
“There was a hold on the truck over the weekend,” he said. “That’s being handled by a separate investigation.”
This ongoing investigation is being performed by the Georgia State Patrol Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team (SCRT).
“They need to download some things from the truck’s computer,” Webb said. “It’s going to be turned over to them, as far as the truck involvement.”
When asked what additional charges are possible, Webb said, “Drivers can be brought up on charges of serious injury by a motor vehicle — something like that. It’s a possibility, but I won’t know until the SCRT finishes their investigation.”

We're all praying for this family, hoping Josieanna recovers soon.
And to think, that some people wanted to take the 18 wheeler restriction off of McDonough Rd. This is why us residents complained so loudly to the County Commision and to the state when they wanted to make it legal to run big trucks down McDonough Rd. to Hwy.16. We all feared a family getting run over by a big truck that could'nt stop in time. Now if we can only get someone to enforce the "NO THROUGH TRUCKS" signs that are all along our road. Is it going to take someone getting killed to get thia addressed?
