The Griffin Lady Bears are moving in the right direction.

The Lady Bears won their second straight game Friday night, beating the Dutchtown Lady Bulldogs 46-44 in Region 4-AAAA crossover action at The House.

Last year, Griffin was swept by Dutchtown in the two games they played. With the win Friday night, Griffin (Div. B) improved to 2-3 overall and 2-1 in region play while stopping Div. A Dutchtown’s 5-game win streak. The Lady Bulldogs are now 5-3, 2-1.

It was a nip-and-tuck affair all game long, with neither team getting a clear-cut advantage in the first half. An Ashton Elliott 3-pointer and two free throws by Shacoria Jones helped Griffin lead 31-29 heading into the fourth quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Elliott sank two treys to help the Lady Bears get their biggest lead of the half, 39-32, with 5:52 remaining. Unfortunately for Griffin, the Lady Bulldogs went on an 8-1 run to tie the game at 40 with 3:25 left in the contest. Both teams traded baskets to tie the score at 42 before two free throws from Jones broke the tie, 44-42, with 1:33 left.

Chelsea Prather then scored a layup off a deflection to give Griffin a 46-42 lead with 50 seconds remaining. Dutchtown’s Tiara Scott made two free throws to get her team within two at 46-44, but the Lady Bulldogs would get no closer. Jones led all scorers with 16 points, followed by Elliott with 11 and Xandria Hosely chipped in 8 for Griffin. Victoria Nelson led Dutchtown with 11 points.

Griffin’s girls get back into action today at 5 p.m. as they host the Henry County Ladyhawks in non-region action at The House.
