The Griffin Police Department (GPD) responded to East Griffin Grocery on East Solomon Street Wednesday at about 10 p.m. in reference to an aggravated assault.

When officers arrived at the scene, they spoke to the 37-year-old male victim, who stated that he had been involved in an altercation with a 36-year-old male, who police consider to be the suspect, according to a GPD incident report.

Based on the information police officers gathered from the victim and three witnesses, they concluded that the incident began earlier that evening when the victim and the suspect exchanged words at a location on Spalding Street.

A short while later, both were in the parking lot of East Griffin Grocery, where the suspect swung a quart of King Cobra at the victim. The victim was able to dodge the swing and hit the suspect with his fist. As a fight began, the King Cobra was dropped on the pavement, leaving shattered glass on the ground, into which the suspect fell and cut himself.
