Dutchtown, however — coming off an emotional win on a shot at the buzzer the night before against Stockbridge — was playing without Donovahn Jones, its leading scorer and rebounder, as well as 6-foot-5, 330-pound Jordan Harris, its largest post player. Both were in Florida playing in the Georgia-Florida football All-Star game.
Nonetheless, Tae Mayes scored a team-high 16 points and Rayshod Armstrong added 12 as Griffin (9-5 overall, 3-3 region) — which was fifth in the Region 4-AAAA Div. B standings when the weekend started — snapped a two-game losing streak and split the regular-season series with Dutchtown while the Kalvin Hobbs-led Bulldogs (6-7, 3-4) had a four-game win streak end.
This game was not a Region 4-AAAA contest.
Griffin pressured the ball throughout the first half to build a 20-10 lead at the end of the first quarter, a 33-26 lead at the half and a 45-37 lead going into the fourth.
Dutchtown cut the lead as close as two, 46-44, on a basket with 6:49 to play, but Griffin worked it back to nine, 53-44, with 4:46 to play. The Bulldogs made three more runs, each time getting it back to five. Griffin slammed the breaks on the first two, working its lead to nine and then seven. The third time Dutchtown ran out of clock as the game came to an end.
Dutchtown's Aundre Reid (16) and Turgiun Mott (11) joined Hobbs (19) in double figures. Terrell Collier scored nine to round out Griffin's top three scorers.

Dutchtown 48, Griffin 40 (GIRLS): Dutchtown prevailed in a game with large momentum shifts as Griffin lost its second in the last three games Saturday evening.
The Region 4-AAAA Div. A second-place Lady Bulldogs, which led 17-10 at the half, proceeded to score the game's first six points of the second half to build a 23-12 lead on a night where offense was at a minimum.
Nonetheless, Griffin (6-8, 3-3) — which started the weekend as the second-place team in Region 4-AAAA Div. B — came storming back to take the lead on a 3-point shot by co-team leading scorer Shacoria Jones, 26-25, with 1:45 left to play in the third quarter of a game Griffin trailed 7-5 at the end of the first quarter, 17-12 at the half and 31-27 going into the fourth quarter. There Griffin was outscored 17-13 for the final margin.
This contest was not a Region 4-AAAA game.
Joining Jones in double figures for Griffin was Ashton Elliott with 13. Double-digit scorers for the Lady Bulldogs included Victoria Nelson (11) and Kivanna Kudratt (10) as both teams split the regular-season series.
