Stockbridge took the lead in the top of the first, scoring off a double to the warning track by catcher Zack Ledbetter. In the bottom, senior Parker Powell lined a ball to left field, scoring shortstop Drew Compton and advancing all the way to third on an error. After allowing the unearned run, Stockbridge pitcher Shean Kennedy retired the next five batters on 15 pitches, on his way to throwing a complete game in defeat.
The Tigers scored another run in the third, taking its second lead of the night at 2-1. In the fourth, Ledbetter doubled again for Stockbridge, this time driving in two to extend its lead to three. In the bottom half, Hayes hit a stand-up double to right-center, then scored on a single to left from second baseman Anson Link, tying the game at two.
In the fifth inning, the Jaguars took off, sending 13 batters to the plate and having every player score sub one. Hayes, Powell Krepps, Chase Pruitt, and Evan Skipper each hit to drive in runs, the rest arriving on three errors from the Tiger defense. The eight runs scored in a single inning mark the largest offensive output this season for the home team, and propelled Spalding even further into the race for first place in region 4-AAAA.
After blanking Stockbridge in the sixth, the Jaguars scored three more runs off consecutive hits from Pruitt, Louis Farlow and Evan Skipper, with the addition of a sacrifice grounder from Dustin Tardy, setting the final margin at 13-4. The Tigers dropped a 1-2-3 inning in the seventh, giving the Spalding crowd an early ride home.
On Monday, the Jaguars face off against current region leader Locust Grove on the road. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
