“I’ve known Stuart for seven years now and cannot think of a finer young man to be selected by the folks at Wendy’s Heisman,” FRA athletic director Kevin Baute said in an interview with the Pike County Journal. “Stuart is a leader in our student body in the classroom and the field of play. He sets high standards for himself academically and athletically and expects much from those around him. Beyond his abilities as a student-athlete, Stuart is an even better person who at his core devotes his life to his family and faith. He’s a great kid with a good head on his shoulders. He’s a great representative of Flint river and Pike County.”
Gregg was team captain on the basketball team his sophomore and junior tears, earning the team award for Best Rebounder in addition to making the GISA All-Region team as a junior. In tennis he played in the GISA Class AA Sweet 16. He also played two years of varsity baseball and also ran track and excelled in the discus.
Gregg was one of 20 top scholar-athletes honored as a finalist in Georgia. Of the 45,000 seniors who apply nationwide, 1,763 applications were from Georgia.
“These finalists embody the Heisman spirit of hard work and dedication through their outstanding achievements in athletics, academics and community/school leadership,” Christyne Redecker of the Wendy’s Heisman program said. “Just as the collegiate Heisman is known for being the highest award in college football, the Wendy’s High School Heisman, now in it 19th year, is one of the most esteemed awards at the high school level.”
