LaGRANGE — The Griffin Christian Lady Crusaders volleyball team clinched the GISA Region 3-AA championship last week, defeating Grace Baptist 2-0 and Lafayette Christian 2-1 in tournament play in which all three teams agreed to play the best-of-three instead of the usual best-of-five.

GC, which improves to 22-2 on the season, has no losses in region play with one region match left. All other Region 3-AA teams have at least two losses in the region.

The Lady Crusaders dominated Grace, beating them 25-16 and 25-12. They struggled against Lafayette but pulled the match out 25-21, 23-25, 25-15.

“It was a very interesting tournament. Grace trounced Lafayette early and then we beat Grace handily and struggled with Lafayette,” said GC coach Melanie Foster. “That was pretty wild. I’m just happy we won the region title. I’m very proud of the girls — they’ve done a great job all season long.”

The Lady Crusaders hosted Lafayette in their final region match — and final home regular-season match — of the season Tuesday evening.
