MARIETTA — C.J. Lewis ran for a pair of touchdowns to lead Griffin Christian in a 53-32 loss Friday at Dominion Christian in private school football.

“The game was close in the first half,” said second-year Griffin Christian head coach Bobby Brogdon, whose team trailed 26-20 at the half. “Too many penalties hurt us — we had two touchdowns called back.”

Both touchdowns called back came on runs by Donovan Adams.

Quarterback Dillan Brogdon threw an 80-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Jairus Bethel to account for one of the Crusaders’ other scores, while Hunter Ott recovered a Dominion Christian fumble in the end zone to account for the other Griffin Christian touchdown.

Several Crusaders were also injured in the game.

“We’re going to lick our wounds and be ready for practice on Tuesday,” said coach Brogdon, whose team (1-1) looks to get back into the win column this week when it hosts Loganville Christian 7:30 p.m., Friday at Nix Field.

The victory was the first this season for Dominion Christian (1-1), which evened the all-time series with Griffin Christian to 1-all.

Georgia Force 31, Skipstone 16

SUGAR HILL, Ga. — Three red-zone fumbles by Skipstone Academy proved costly in a 31-16 loss Friday against the Georgia Force in Glory For Christ East action.

Despite amassing 300 yards of offense, ultimately three fumbles inside the Georgia Force 20 — all in the first half — proved too much to overcome as the Georgia Force (3-0 overall, 0-1 region) remained unbeaten and Skipstone (0-4 overall, 0-2 region) continues to search for its first win this season.

On a night where the Force scored the game’s first 15 points, Skipstone trailed 15-8 at the half.

Christian Stewart led the Warriors with 110 yards and one touchdown rushing, while Jamacio Kimble also scored on a 45-yard touchdown pass from Christian Salvador.

Christian Salvador, himself, added 45 yards rushing and five tackles on defense to further the Warriors’ cause. Dave Quashi led Skipstone with nine tackles and two assists, while Sam Beng had four tackles, including two sacks.

“We made a lot of dumb mistakes,” second-year Warriors coach Dan Salvador said. “Out youth and inexperience was in play in this game.”

Alex Snider had a two-point conversion reception for Skipstone which continues its season 7:30 p.m., Friday at Warrior Field against North Georgia.
