The Griffin Police Department and Griffin Fire-Rescue responded Thursday afternoon to a single-vehicle accident with entrapment in the vicinity of 317 N. 10th St.

The vehicle, a 2000 Chevrolet Camaro, driven by Timothy Gibson, of 401 Maddox Road, was traveling on North 10th Street when Gibson crossed over the opposite lane, drove down an embankment and came to a stop in a small creek at the bottom of the embankment.

The first officer to arrive at the scene, Jonathan McGehee, noted Gibson had experienced facial and head injuries and was trapped in his vehicle.

Upon their arrival at the scene, members of Griffin Fire-Rescue were successful in removing Gibson from his car.

Gibson, who was conscious and communicating with emergency personnel, was subsequently released to paramedics with Spalding Regional EMS and transported to Spalding Regional Medical Center for medical care.

According to the police report, McGehee said he “detected the strong odor of an intoxicating beverage coming from Gibson.”

Police believe the cause of the collision was Gibson’s alleged level of intoxication.

Gibson currently has a DUI charge and other traffic charges pending the results of a toxicology screening administered on Thursday.
