Republican challenger Bart Miller Jr. has unseated Republican incumbent Eddie Freeman as the Spalding County commissioner for District 4 during Tuesday’s general primary and nonpartisan election.

According to unofficial results provided by the Spalding County Department of Voter Registration and Elections, Miller received 1,099 out of 1,932 votes — with all seven precincts reporting. That represents 56.88 percent of all votes. Freeman received 833 votes (43.12 percent).

With no Democratic candidate running for the District 4 commissioner seat, Miller will serve as Spalding County commissioner for the next four years.

Miller was not immediately available for comment.

Freeman said he enjoyed his time as county commissioner.

“The people have spoken,” he said. “I did what I said I was going to do. I’m happy. I served eight years (on the board). I had a good run. I’ll complete my term and do what I need to do for the people of Spalding County.”

When asked if he had any words for Miller, Freeman said, “I wish him well.”

Results of Tuesday’s election will not be official until later this week.
