The Griffin Police Department (GPD) responded to a location on North Hill Street last Sunday at about 7 p.m. in reference to a fight in progress. When officers arrived at the scene, they noticed two females yelling and screaming at each other, according to a GPD incident report.

Although police officers instructed both of them to quit yelling at each other, one female — later identified as 39-year-old Elizabeth Maddox — reportedly continued to scream expletives at the other female.

After being told several times to stop cussing, Maddox walked inside her apartment. Police then spoke to the other female who stated that the argument was over her juvenile daughter, who is pregnant.

According to the female, her daughter was in a fight with Maddox’s daughter earlier that day. She added that when Maddox referred to her daughter by using a derogatory term and was trying to fight her, she was going to defend her child.

Police noted in the report that during the interview of the female, Maddox came out of her apartment several times, cussing and screaming, and was instructed each time to return to her apartment. Meanwhile, a large crowd of people had gathered outside to see what the disturbance was about.

As officers made contact with Maddox to hear her version of the events that had transpired, Maddox reportedly continued to cuss, stating, “I didn’t touch that (expletive), go ahead, take me to jail.”

That’s when officers placed Maddox under arrest for disorderly conduct. While Maddox was handcuffed and about to be escorted to a GPD patrol car, her 15-year-old daughter reportedly became upset over her mother being arrested and began yelling expletives outside.

Police then arrested Maddox’s juvenile daughter for disorderly conduct as well.

Both were taken to police headquarters for processing. Maddox was then released on an own-recognizance bond, and her daughter was released into Maddox’s custody.
