— They say that losing builds character. If that is true, Georgia Tech has the best character in college football.

— That was an impressive guest column by Commissioner Bob Gilreath in The Griffin Daily News. I bet that his 23 supporters were delighted by his words of wisdom.

— Fun GOP fact of the day: Georgia Rep. Paul Broun, who serves on a science, space and technology committee, believes the earth is only 9,000 years old.

— Is Romney still a Mormon, or has he changed his story about that too?

— Former skier Picabo Street is donating money for a new intensive care unit for the hospital in her hometown. The unit will be called “Picabo ICU.”

— I vote to let Obama’s impersonator on “Saturday Night Live” do the next debate.

— I get tired of people slamming Georgia Tech football and how they are a bunch of losers. They’re not losers; they had a big win over Presbyterian this year.

— Wow. Bob Gilreath told it like it is on the ways and wrongs in Spalding County in his editorial in the Sunday GDN. Thanks, Bob, for standing up and informing us as to what is wrong and why. Thank you, Bob. I wish more of the BOC thought like you do.

— I have never been in a more mean-spirited place than Griffin. Why do people around here feel the need to constantly slam others and be so negative about everything? People act like they’re such good “Christians,” but they need to learn the Golden Rule.

— Why is the city spending thousands of our tax dollars on a study and testing of the lake? The lake is full of mud. Dredge out the mud, spread it along the shore, and plant grass on it. Even an idiot can see this will solve the problem created when the lake was built in the wrong place. Don’t spend my tax money on idiot studies.

— I agree with the man who said he didn’t like seeing these old geezers at the bank during his lunch hour. They need to stay at home so us working people can cash our checks. We only have so much time to go to the bank and I don’t have time to wait for these old fossils standing in line in front of me.

— If you enjoy eating at a beautiful and quiet spot, go by Truett’s and pick up a to-go lunch and eat it at the University of Georgia garden on Ellis Road. Tables and restrooms available.

— This is speaking to the individual’s comments on Chick-fil-A’s condoning of gay or same-sex lifestyle. I don’t know where your information came from of if you misunderstand this situation. You are trying to mix family or personal beliefs, with company practices or actions or beliefs. This family has never pushed their religious doctrine on any employee or customers.

— Smoke makes me choke, and since the burn ban has been lifted there has been a lot of choking in Georgia. First the Braves, then the Jackets and then the Dawgs.

— Honey Boo Boo and her family being on television is almost as big a joke as Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi and Barack Obama being part of the United States government.

— I see “The Great Mayor” of Atlanta is issuing new rules against panhandlers. He will jail them after their second violation. Why not jail them after their first violation so they can get clothed, fed and have shelter?

— This same-sex marriage situation has really messed up my life. My wife left me for my girlfriend and the word is they have gone to New York to get married.

— Scientists say that dinosaurs are extinct. However, I bet that there are some that are still alive in remote parts of the world, such as the Australian Outback and the rain forests in South America. Just because an expert says something is true, that doesn’t mean that it is.

— I agree with the person who said Republicans are liars and have never cared about civil rights. It makes me mad that the Republicans would take credit for ending slavery. They should be ashamed of themselves for spreading these awful lies.

— I heard a liberal say that Adam had a wife before Eve named Lilith. If she was anything like Lilith Crane on “Cheers,” I don’t blame Adam for dumping her for Eve.

— How come they don’t play country music on country music stations anymore? If I wanted to listen to pop or rock ’n’ roll, I would listen to a pop or rock ’n’ roll station.

— I don’t know if the Georgia Dawgs football team will get eaten up by a bunch of “Gators” but I sure know they got pecked very hard by a bunch of “Gamecocks.”

Republicans didn't free the slaves??? Apparently you slept through history class. Abraham Lincoln was the republican who signed the Emancipation Proclamation freeing the slaves. I suggest that you do some reading. Also, read Up From Slavery by Booker T. Washington. Its a good lesson on what a people can do for themselves if they try.

Ok, I'll type this slow so you can understand. Abraham Licoln was a Republican and so was Martin Luther King. Get a clue.

You must have never studied American History. The anti-slavery movement was completely the work of the Republican party. You can say it's a lie, but that doesn't make you correct. Our current administration could learn something from this, just saying something is a lie isn't enough, you need to be able to prove it.

You are correct. Abe Lincoln, founder of the concepts of the modern day Republican party, freed all the slaves. Heck, Democrats were the ones who tended to vote against the civil rights laws up until the 1960s. Barry Goldwater was a Republican who favored allowing the individual states to pass their own civil rights laws, instead of a federal law. He was the nominee in a weak Republican field, and he was defeated in a landslide, but he carried the deep south, the first Republican to win there since Reconstruction. Since that time, the perception is that Republicans are southern racists, when that is not in fact true. But as the saying goes, you can't fix stupid.

Today's Republican party is NOT your father's Republican party......especially since the radical extremists of the tea party have invaded it. It's sad to see what the GOP has morphed into. Until they get back closer to the "center", instead of so far to the right it's scary, I'll never vote Repub again. I would rather give President Obama four more years than have someone in office who obviously knows nothing of the plight of the middle class. Why vote for someone who consistently changes his position depending on his audience? If Romney is elected, one thing is certain...the middle class WILL lose their tax deductions. When asked, Romney always tap dances around this issue and starts his double talk.

To the individual who says that all Replublicans are liars. You believe the Democrats? Yea! Like Obama is going to take care of you! He doesn't even help his own brother. And further, if you will review your history, President Abraham Lincoln was head of the Repulican party when slaves were freed. So get over it already.
