Mrs. Claire L. Opalek, age 88 of Hot Springs, Arkansas, passed away on Monday, Oct. 29, 2012.
Mrs. Opalek was born on April 19, 1924 in Brooklyn, New York. She is preceded in death by her parents, Hjalmar Petterson and Mary Hughes Petterson; brother, William Petterson. Mrs. Opalek was retired with the New York Telephone Company.
Survivors include children, Tom Johnson, Richard Johnson and Frank Johnson; nine grandchildren, several great-grandchildren; nieces, Catherine Petterson Truemper, Carol Edwards.
Visitation for Mrs. Claire L. Opalek will be on Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012, and Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012, from 3 until 5 p.m., each day at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. Graveside funeral services will be conducted Monday, Nov. 5, 2012, at 9 a.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery. Father Mark Fischer will officiate.

Mr. Garland Nichols

Mr. Garland Nichols, age 87 of Milner, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, October 31, 2012.
Mr. Nichols was born in Griffin, Georgia on September 18, 1925. He is preceded in death by his parents, Charlie M. Nichols and Lois Johnson Parham. Mr. Nichols was also preceded in death by brother, Johnny Nichols; sisters, Sara DeFoor and Edna Kilgo. He was the former owner and operator of Nichols Grocery and BP Gas Station in Orchard Hill.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn H. Nichols; son and daughter in law, Richard and Kathy Marchman; daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Hubert McNeer; stepsons, Eddie Henson and David Henson; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Memorial services for Mr. Garland Nichols will be conducted Sunday, November 4, 2012 at 4 pm in the chapel of Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. Greg Whitehurst and James Dutton will officiate. Friends may visit the family from 3:00 pm until the hour of service. Interment will be in Griffin Memorial Gardens on Monday, November 5, 2012.

Mr. Harry B. Rawlins

Mr. Harry B. Rawlins, 82, of Zebulon, passed away Nov. 2, 2012 at his residence.
Mr. Rawlins was born December 9, 1929 in Macon. He was a life-long resident of Zebulon, and a life-time member of First Baptist Church of Zebulon, where he loved to sing in the choir, and was an honorary deacon. Mr. Rawlins was a veteran of the United States Navy, and retired from Delta Airlines after 24 years of service. He was a former mayor of Zebulon and a City of Zebulon Council member for more than 40 years. He enjoyed life by spending time with his wife, family and friends. He liked to visit the post office and City of Zebulon employees at City Hall. He was preceded in death by his parents, D. B. Rawlins, Sr. and Irene Hall Rawlins; son, Christopher Harry Rawlins, and his grandson, Rodney Chad Rawlins.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Darlene Rawlins; sons and daughters-in-law, Glen and Kim Rawlins and Keith and Sherry Rawlins, all of Zebulon; grandchildren, Amy G. Blount, Chrissy Rawlins, Allen Rawlins and wife Sarah, Austin Rawlins, Katie Rawlins and Bailey Rawlins; great-grandchildren, Libby Baynard, Brayden Gazaway, Ashton Gazaway, Landon Baynard, Lathen Baynard, Anna Ruby Griffin, Liam Blount and Brooklyn Rawlins; and former daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Hawkins, of Zebulon.
Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, Nov. 5 at 11 a.m. in the First Baptist Church of Zebulon with Dr. Ed S. Hoard officiating. Interment will follow in Eastview Cemetery in Zebulon. Friends may visit the family on Sunday evening, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
