As officers arrived at the scene, they made contact with the victim, a 36-year-old black female, who stated that someone had entered her residence and stole some copper pipes. Police officers noticed puddles of water in the yard that were coming from the house and could hear water running and see water on the floor as they walked from the front to the back of the residence.
While police dispatch had the water turned off and contacted an investigator with the GPD’s Crime Scene Unit, officers observed that copper pipes from the top of the hot water tank were missing, with damage to the wall where the pipes had been torn out. Police further noticed that one piece of pipe was lying beside the hot water tank, and two more pieces of pipe were lying on the dining room floor.
According to a GPD incident report, the victim stated that she believed the suspect had entered the residence through the front window. She also told officers that she was in the process of moving out and didn’t stay at the residence the night before.
Police checked the scene for latent prints and took two pieces of pipe to headquarters to be processed.
