Local law enforcement agencies are asking residents to turn in their unwanted pills Saturday.

The Griffin Police Department and the Spalding County Sheriff’s Office, in cooperation with the Drug Enforcement Administration, will be conducting the annual Pill Take Back Initiative Saturday. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., residents can bring “all of your unwanted or discarded prescription and nonprescription pills,” to the Walmart at 1569 North Expressway or the Spalding County Sheriff’s Office, 401 Justice Blvd., Griffin.

Griffin Police Capt. Dwayne Jones said there will be law enforcement officers at each location to receive unwanted and discarded prescription and nonprescription pills.

“This take back program is to help stop the abuse of prescription and nonprescription drugs in our communities,” Jones said.

“No questions will be asked,” Jones said. “This is not an enforcement action but an effort to provide an outlet to discard unwanted or discarded prescription and nonprescription pills or capsules.”
