The city and county are once again considering a public safety training center out at the Shoal Creek Landfill.

City of Griffin Public Safety Director and Chief of Police Frank Strickland spoke with city commissioners about the proposal at last Tuesday’s workshop and is scheduled to make a presentation to the county commissioners at the Nov. 5 meeting. Strickland said the training facility has been under consideration since 2006.

Currently city police and county deputies are using the Griffin Gun Club shooting range on Amelia Road for qualifying. “The gun club has been very magnanimous with us, but it is being used more and more often by members.”

As president of the Griffin Gun Club it is not at all clear what type on training center the city and,or,county would need. We have always been accomodating to both City and County when they request to use the culb for training. That is one of our clubs civic duties.I can't think of a time when we have refused them use of the ranges.

I would have thought the powers at large would have addressed the Club about wanting to expand their training procedures before planing on spending "who knows how much" on a training complex. It may even be possible to cover some of that training at the gun club and SAVE some cost.

Hasn't the economy been a little bad to Griffin and Spalding Co. as it has been to the citizens of America ?? It sounds like another Tax-payer burden.
