The Griffin Police Department (GPD) was dispatched to the intersection of Morris Street and East Tinsley Street Saturday at about 4:20 a.m. in reference to a robbery.

As police officers were driving east on East Tinsley Street, they were flagged down by two black males — 25 and 30 years old — on the side of the road. The men said they were the victims of a robbery, with one of them bleeding from his nose and lips.

According to a GPD incident report, both victims stated that they had left a club and were driving north on Morris Street when a group of about 10 black males, sitting in the breezeway of some apartments, yelled at them to stop.

The 25-year-old victim, who was driving the vehicle, reportedly did so, and both stepped out of the vehicle.

The group of males then approached the two victims and circled around them, as one group member displayed a silver revolver and ordered the 30-year-old victim to the ground. Another group member pulled the 30-year-old’s property — two cellphones worth an estimated $200, $25 in cash and his wallet containing his ID — from his pockets.

The 30-year-old stated that while he was being robbed, he heard thuds coming from his immediate surroundings but couldn’t tell what the noise was. When he stood up, he noticed the 25-year-old victim bleeding from his face.

The 25-year-old, meanwhile, told police that he was told by the group to “give up your (expletive),” and when he refused, an additional handgun was produced with which he was beaten in the face.

Neither victim recognized any of the suspects, but said they were wearing black tank tops, dreads and some sort of bandanas on their heads. All of them reportedly fled the scene on foot heading toward Morris Street Apartments.
