We do not want a new airport

To the editor:

I would like to ask why do the commissioners continue to do everything in their powers to build a new airport?

I believe that it has been about three times that those in the county and city have placed this on a ballot for the taxpayers to fund their pet airport project. I know, for I voted against it every time.

Therer were so sure if Spalding County did not approve the T-SPLOST that other counties would force the tax. Well, that did not happen. Now they are trying to find a way to go around the voters.

Some people do not understand “no.”

Don’t they get the picture? If the taxpayers are funding the Airport Authority, or not, the elected officials need to disband them and do as the people decided. They were put in place before votes were cast. I was very angry when I read this. They can settle for what we have, or let them use Bear Creek Airport or Thomaston Airport.

If that bugs those who want a big airport, then they should move to a location that has one.

With the cost involved, this would help keep our tax base lower instead of adding to the Spalding taxpayers the extra burden of higher taxes for a bigger airport.

I don’t care if the federal government was paying 95 percent of the cost, there would still be operational cost taking care of it with more employees and with a bigger salary for the director since there is move involved.

There is a tendency with government to enlarge so as to create more and higher-paying jobs. There are almost more government workers nationwide that there are working to support them.

As a Spalding County resident, I resent elected servants of the people going against the decisions voters make. I am sure other voters feel the same.

When you say "We". Who are you referring to ? Conservatives or liberals ? In reference to the comment We dont want a new airport. It seems as if nothing new is wanted.
