Westmoreland wins decisively over Flanegan, Kingsley

U.S. Rep. Lynn Westmoreland, the Republican incumbent for Georgia’s 3rd congressional district, won Tuesday’s election over Republican challengers Kent Kingsley and Chip Flanegan decisively.

According to election results provided by the website of Georgia Secretary of State Brian P. Kemp, Westmoreland received 72.62 percent of all votes as of 9:30 p.m., with three of 13 counties reporting.

Flanegan was in second with 13.92 percent of all votes, just barely ahead of Kingsley, who had received 13.46 of all votes.

In Spalding County, with 17 out of 21 precincts reporting as of 9:30 p.m., Westmoreland had received 4,183 out of 5,592 votes (74.80 percent). Flanegan was second with 768 votes (13.73 percent), and Kingsley was third with 641 votes (11.46 percent).

Westmoreland, who lives in Coweta County, has been representing Georgia’s 3rd congressional district since 2007. Before that, from 2005 to 2007, he represented Georgia’s 8th congressional district.

Election results do not include provisional ballots and will not be official until later this week.
