Marine Lance Cpl. Christopher Blake Rodgers, who was killed in action Sept. 1, while serving in Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom, will be honored at noon Saturday in a service at Haisten McCullough Funeral Home on Everee Inn Road.

“We are having a flag and memorial dedication service in honor of Blake,” said Haisten McCullough Director D.J. Brewer. “His family will be speaking to the public for the first time, and some of his platoon will hopefully be able to come, too.”

In addition, the Spalding High School JROTC, of which Rodgers was a member throughout high school, will for the first time raise the flag on the newly dedicated pole.

Brewer said the service was scheduled to coincide with Veterans Day observances.

“This is an event to honor those who have served and sacrificed,” he said, adding that Rodgers will always hold a special place in the hearts of local residents. “He’s a fallen hero — he’s our fallen hero. We want to honor him for giving his life four his country.”
