Griffin lost its region opener to fall to 3-1 overall, 0-1 in the division.
The Lady Bears lost their first match of the season after winning the girls version of the Lamar County Trojan Cup last Saturday.
The Lady Bears outscored their opponents 22-1 in three games en route to winning the Trojan Cup.
In Tuesday’s match, Union Grove (3-0, 1-0) jumped on Griffin 2-0 in the first minute of the contest and never looked back.
“They came at us so quickly and that seemed to take the wind out of our sails,” said Lady Bears head coach Jerry Fields. “They are very talented and they were very fast up front.”
Union Grove scored three more goals in the first half to take a 5-0 lead into halftime. Fields said the Lady Bears played much better in the second half.
He said the Lady Bears had “three or four good scoring chances” in the match, but they just couldn’t get past UG’s keeper.
“We held them to only two goals in the second half, so I’m happy with that part of the match,” he said. “Now it’s on to Woodland High Friday [at 5:30 p.m.] and we’ll try to get back on the winning track.”
Griffin’s next four matches, including Friday’s contest at Woodland-Stockbridge, will be on the road. The Lady Bears’ home opener is March 16 against Sandy Creek.
