GEORGIA GOLF DAY SET FOR MARCH 8: The Georgia Allied Golf Council will host Georgia Golf Day on Tuesday, March 8 at the Georgia State Capital Rotunda in Atlanta to celebrate 2011 as, “The Year of Golf,” in Georgia.
Two of the four majors will be played in Georgia this year, The Masters April 4-10 at Augusta National Golf Club and PGA Championship Aug. 8-12 at the Atlanta Athletic Club.
The golf industry generates a total annual impact of $5.1 billion to the vitality of Georgia’s economy and supports nearly 57,000 jobs with $1.5 billion of wage income, according to the Economic Impact Study commissioned by golf’s allied industry organizations.
The day’s activities will feature free golf lessons from Georgia PGA Professionals and photo opportunities with Championship trophies.

LITTLE LEAGUE SOFTBALL: Griffin-Spalding Little League Softball will conduct registration for the 2011 spring softball season from noon to 4 p.m. today at Volunteer Park.
A copy of the birth certificate is required at registration. Fee is $60 for ages 4-6 and $100 for 7-18. Residents of Spalding, Pike and Lamar County are eligible.
Anyone interested in coaching for Griffin-Spalding Little League Softball is requested to attend a Coaches Meeting at 1 p.m. today at Volunteer Park.

BAIN PROCTOR AWARD: The SCPRD will accept nominations for the annual Bain Proctor Award for Volunteerism through the end of business day on March 11.
