The Rotary Club of Griffin on Thursday welcomed Army helicopter pilot Chief Warrant Officer Michael Lee.

Lee is the son of Chris and Clara Lee of Concord. He leaves Saturday for Afghanistan on his second tour of duty as an Apache helicopter pilot and gunner.

Lee has been in the Army for 4 1/2 years. His first tour was in Iraq.

When introduced by Philip Smith, a Vietnam War-era pilot, Lee received a standing ovation from those attending the Rotary Club meeting.

Lee said he and his fellow soldiers “all appreciate the support we get. Whether an email or letter or any small thing, we appreciate it.”
