Wins keep coming: Jags put whipping on Golden Eagles, 12-4

McDONOUGH, Ga. — The Spalding High Jaguars baseball team rolled to another victory, this time thumping the Eagle’s Landing Golden Eagles 12-4 in Region 4-AAA action on the road Thursday.

Make that 17 straight wins for the Class AAA No. 1 state-ranked Jags, who now improve to 19-1 overall and 13-0 in region action.

Austin Smith got the win for the Jags on the mound, pitching five innings, allowing four hits with 3 strikeouts. Nathan Skinner relieved Smith, striking out 3 and allowing one hit in two innings.

The Jags belted 12 hits Thursday, with Skinner going 3-for-4 with 2 runs scored and 3 RBIs. Dylan Griffin (2-for-4) ripped a 3-run triple and Robert Green also went 2-for-4 in the contest.

Matt Hayes went 1-for-4 with a triple and scored 3 runs, Casey Moody had 2 RBIs and Smith went 1-for-4.

“We played really good defense tonight. I’m proud of the guys,” said Jags head coach Mickey Moody. “We got out of some jams tonight.”

Spalding finishes the regular-season with a five-game homestand starting next Tuesday, April 19 vs. Stockbridge and ending April 30 with a doubleheader vs. Troup and East Coweta.

The Jags will be retiring former Spalding High and Mercer University standout Tyler McCarty's jersey prior to the Stockbridge game.
