MACON — The No. 3 seed Spalding High Lady Jaguars tennis team hit the road Monday afternoon, defeating the No. 2 seed Howard High Lady Huskies 3-1 in the first round of the Class AAA state tennis tournament.

Bea Dallas won No. 3 singles 6-3, 7-5 for Spalding High and the No. 1 doubles team of Lib Moore and Sara Peek won 6-2, 6-4. The No. 2 doubles team of Mackenzie King and Caroline Hearn won by the identical scores of 6-2, 6-2.

Spalding’s next state playoff match will be against the Cairo/Richmond Academy winner.

In the boys Class AAA state tennis tournament, the No. 2 seed Spalding Jags hosted the No. 3 seed Perry Panthers Monday, defeating them 3-0 in first-round action.

The Jags got wins from No. 1 singles player Brett Piland (6-0, 6-2), No. 2 singles Daniel Blake (6-2, 6-2) and No. 3 singles Colby Willis (6-0, 6-1).

Spalding’s next boys state match will be against the Thomson/Americus-Sumter winner.
