FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga — The Atlanta Falcons have a storied 46-year history that began June 30, 1965.

Since that date, some of the most respected and well-liked players in NFL history have come through the Falcons’ organization.

While every Falcons fan has their favorite player, the team wanted to know which player is the definitive all-time fan-favorite. So the AtlantaFalcons.com and Ford have teamed up for the Fans’ Favorite Falcon legacy series, which began July 1.

Eighteen of the top players to ever wear a Falcons uniform were identified with the help of the fans on the FalconsLIFE Message Board and a committee of Falcons staff, and those players were then ranked by the committee based on the legacies they left with the franchise.

Players had to play with the Falcons for at least three seasons and be completely retired from the game to be considered.

Fans were then asked to vote on their favorite Falcons player in head-to-head matchups to determine which would move forward in the NCAA Basketball Tournament-style bracket.

The first round of voting was completed last week, with more than 7,100 fan votes registered. Moving forward to the second round were: top seed Jessie Tuggle, running back William Andrews, center Jeff Van Note, quarterback Steve Bartkowski, wide receiver Terance Mathis, cornerback Deion Sanders, linebacker Tommy Nobis and running back Jamal Anderson.

Fans get 48 hours to vote on each match-up before a winner in each head-to-head is determined. All winners are announced during a results show on AtlantaFalcons.com after each round.

The second round of voting begin today, Tuesday, July 12, with No. 1 Jessie Tuggle vs. No. 9 William Andrews.

The final winner of the Fans’ Favorite Falcon legacy series, presented by Ford, will be revealed during the final week of July.
