The Atlanta Experience will be coming to Griffin in the immediate future — and they’ll be bringing the NBA with them.

The Atlanta Experience, an expansion team in the American Basketball Association coached by Griffin native Alan “Duck” Richards, will be facing a select group of NBA All-Stars on Saturday, Nov. 19 at 7 p.m. in the Spalding High gym. The game will cost $10 for adults, $5 for all students in middle through high school and children 10-under will be free of charge. All proceeds will benefit the Spalding High Lady Jags basketball program.

“I went to the Atlanta Experience’s game against the NBA All-Stars at Riverdale High School Oct. 30 and I actually had a good time,” said Lady Jags head coach Demetrius King. “The atmosphere was electric and everyone had fun. Coach Duck, who’s also the general manager of the Experience, wanted to play a game here in Griffin so I talked with him to see if a game could be played here at our gym. He said he was thrilled with the idea.”

King said the game should be a spirited contest, especially since the Experience beat the NBA players (which consisted of Rudy Gay, Jarrett Jack, Josh Smith, Damien Wilkins, Derrick Favors and several others) 112-109 at Riverdale High.

“The NBA players were not happy to have lost that first game, so they’re definitely looking forward to a rematch,” King said.

King and Richards are working on all the particulars of the Nov. 19 event. King did say at this point he will have a DJ at the game and door prizes as well. The NBA players will also participate in an autograph session before the 7 p.m. game, most likely at 6 p.m.

“I also want to extend an invitation to all city and school personnel to attend the ABA-NBA game,” King said. “The more people come out, the better.”
