First-year Spalding High head coach Nick Davis had no new updates this week. Two weeks ago he said he had six or seven who could sign, though some not necessarily on signing day. He refused to provide names — in case they were not signed, he said.
Across town, Griffin High head coach Steve DeVoursney said he had three players who were still, “waiting on grades and test scores,” who might sign including linebacker/fullback Eddrick Johnson, outside linebacker Jaylin Piercy, defensive back Marcus Stringer and running back/corner back Lathaddeus Sands.
Elsewhere in the area, several private schools are hoping to have a player or two signed.
Griffin Christian head coach Bobby Brogdon said Western Carolina University and Georgia State are looking at linebacker/fullback Sam Galloway, while Skipstone Academy head coach Dan Salvador said Jackson State in Mississippi is looking at fullback/defensive lineman Charence Wright for academics as well as athletics and Alcorn State had expressed an interest in B.J. Sheppard. And at Faith Christian Academy head coach Teron Jones said he’s hoping to find a suitor for Xavier Clark.
