The incident on which the grievance was founded occurred on March 30, when Jones visited Kennedy Road Middle in the morning to present the school with a Distinguished Title I banner.
While in the front office with Ivey, Kennedy Road Principal Brenda Ford and school employee Crystal Perkins, Jones was heard saying that he would give $20 for each female employee at Kennedy Road Middle he saw in a bikini. When there was no verbal response from any of the women in the room, Jones said, “Well, I guess that comment didn’t go over well.”
In her testimony to the Board of Education, Ivey said she was highly offended by the remark and considered it vulgar, unprofessional and demeaning. Later that day, she spoke with Ford as to the procedure of filing a complaint, which she did on April 9.
