A Griffin Police Department officer is being treated for injuries resulting from an attempted arrest Monday morning.

GPD Capt. Dwayne Jones said the officer was being treated at Spalding Regional Medical Center for his injuries. Radio station WKEU is reporting that the suspect attacked the officer with a box opener and cut the officer on the face.

Jones said the suspect was shot as officers were attempting to make an arrest on North Ninth Street. The suspect was airlifted to the Atlanta Medical Center.

Jones said he could not provide more details about the incident, as it is now being investigated by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

“Any time there is an officer-involved shooting, we turn it over to the GBI," Jones said.

After reading this thread I think we should change our city motto to "Ignorant. Narrow-Minded. Proud"

An airlift for a tragic car accident is one thing.

An airlift for a thug attacking a police officer is another.

These two situations are in no way similar and our money shouldn't be wasted on the latter.
