City planning for airport authority

The creation of an airport authority has only just begun.

The legislation to do so has been approved and sent to the governor as of April 3, said City Manager Kenny Smith, but he is not sure if it has been signed by the governor.

The dates are important, he said, because members of the new authority have to be appointed within 60 days of passage, according to the legislation. Smith said the city and county need to make appointments by June 3.
