USG chancellor visits Rotary Club

Hank Huckaby oversees 35 public institutions of higher education in the state as the chancellor of the University System of Georgia, among them flagship universities such as the University of Georgia and Georgia Tech.

On Thursday, the chancellor visited the Rotary Club of Griffin at the Griffin Country Club, though he arrived a few minutes late.

“On my way here, I’ve learned once again not to trust MapQuest,” Huckaby joked.

On a more serious note, Huckaby told Rotarians that for higher education to be successful, things will need to be approached differently. For example, he said, the USG is funded by the state of Georgia on a formula that is based on enrollment. Plans are being made to add a performance component to this formula.
