The annual Bo Duke Ol’ School Classic will begin 10 a.m., today at the Griffin Christian High School gym on the grounds of Griffin First Assembly of God Church and last throughout the day.

PIKE CHAMBER GOLF

The Pike County Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual golf tournament fundraiser on Monday, May 7, at the Cedars Golf Club, Georgia Highway 18 in Zebulon. Tee time is noon with registration beginning at 11 a.m. Registration is currently under way for players and teams. Individual golfers with a prize package are $75 and four-man teams with prize packages are $300. Registration includes golf, green and cart fees, sandwiches for lunch and dinner.

Register by April 13 and save 10 percent off individual and team fees. Tee sign sponsorships are also available for $100 each. This year’s tournament will also feature the Third Annual Golf Ball Drop. For more information, call (770) 567-2029

STATE AMATEUR

MARIETTA — Entries are now being accepted for the 91st annual Georgia Amateur Championship, which takes place July 12-15, 2012, at Ansley Golf Club-Settindown Creek in Roswell. This event is open to male amateur golfers who are GSGA members and Georgia residents. Deadline for entry is May 9.

The field will consist of 144 players. Non-exempt players must enter through one of 11 statewide 18-hole qualifiers. The format is 72 holes of stroke play, with the field cut to the low 70 and ties after 36 holes. The criteria for exempt players and list of qualifying sites are both available in the Online Registration system through www.gsga.org.

Eligible players must enter through the GSGA website (www.gsga.org) by clicking the Online Registration link.

GEORGIA JUNIOR

MARIETTA — Entries are now being accepted for the 47th annual Georgia Junior Championship, which takes place June 18-20, at Doublegate Country Club in Albany. This event is open to male amateur golfers between the ages of 14 and 17. A competitor must be at least 14 years old as of June 18 and not be 18 as of June 20. Deadline for entry is May 30

The format of the event is 54 holes of stroke play with the 144-player field being cut to the low 70 and ties after 36 holes. The top eight finishers at the Georgia Junior Championship are invited to represent the state in the annual Georgia-South Carolina Junior Challenge Match. Qualified players must enter online at the GSGA website (www.gsga.org) by clicking the Online Registration quick link.

FREE HUNTER SAFETY COURSES

Quail Forever, in conjunction with the Department of Natural Resources, Griffin Gun Club and Devotie Baptist Church, is offering free hunter safety courses at Devotie Baptist Church, 1355 Experiment St. in Griffin, as follows:

— Aug. 28 and 30 (two-night class) from 5:30-9:30 p.m.

— Oct. 2 from 6-8 p.m. Test Only

— Oct. 30 from 6-8 p.m. Test Only

— Dec. 4 from 6-8 p.m. Test Only

Other classes will be taught at different locations as follows:

— May 19 and Aug. 11, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (free lunch), at the Cherokee Rose Sporting Resort in Griffin.

— Sept. 22, 8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. (free lunch), at the Big Red Oak Plantation in Gay.

RICHARDS HAS DISCOUNTED HAWKS PLAYOFF TICKETS: The Atlanta Hawks provided the Griffin Grasshoppers, the local AAU basketball team, with playoff tickets to their NBA playoff series with the Boston Celtics at Philips Arena Tuesday, May 8.
