Spalding County now requires permits for noise-making events held outside.

“Loud, disturbing and unnecessary noises,” according to the county ordinance, include loudspeakers and amplifiers, construction equipment and activity, vehicle repair in residential areas, recreational vehicles with internal combustion engines, and creating of any excessive noise in any public place adjacent to schools, courts, churches and hospitals where it interferes with the workings of such institutions.

The changes, approved Monday by the Spalding County Board of Commissioners, include requiring permits for use of amplification outside and limiting times of use for construction activity, vehicle repair and recreational motor vehicles. A permit is not required for events where amplification is inside a building, unless it can be heard from more than 100 feet away.

It's a good thing our BOC geniuses decided to implement this later. Relay for life, a non-profit fund raising event for cancer research would have had to fork out for a "permit" because of loudspeakers. Hey Spalding County elected officials, how about adding a provision for non-profit waivers??
