The city of Griffin is hiring an armed security guard for the Customer Service office.

The Griffin Board of Commissioners on Tuesday voted 6-0 to approve a contract with Norred & Associates of Atlanta to provide an armed security guard to be stationed 52.5 hours a week in Customer Service at an annual cost of $61,097.40. The annual agreement begins July 1, and renews automatically each year with a 3 percent increase unless otherwise negotiated or changed in writing.

Commissioner Dick Morrow said the move will save the city about $30,000 annually. Currently a police officer is stationed in Customer Service at 100 S. Hill St.

The city is going to spend an extra $61000 salary per year on a security guard whose position is already being filled by a city police officer, that the city pays anyway. And this saves us $30000 per year. Apparently our city officers are getting paid really well, or I just can't do math.

It's all about them shedding more and more responsibility no matter what the cost.

This is a company that was exposed several years ago for having guards with criminal records and no gun license.

WTH is the GPD for?!?!?!?

somebody must know somebody that needs a job. This is ridiculous! I guess we'll pay for it when COG goes up on our light bill again.
