The county recently voted to renew the contract with the Georgia Department of Corrections through June 30, 2013. County Manager William Wilson Jr. told members of the Spalding County Board of Commissioners that based on the renewal, $2,803,200 in revenue is budgeted for fiscal year 2013, which begins July 1. Wilson said the capacity at SCCI is 384 inmates in the main dorms, with 337 inmates there on Monday.
“The warden keeps it close to capacity,” Wilson said.
Wilson said it costs the county about $7 a day to house an inmate. The inmates, he said, “were invaluable to us during the tornado (last year).”
