— I see where our fire-rescue people have a new program to learn Spanish to better communicate with the population. I think the population should learn our language. It is our community, our country. If they want to live here, learn our language. I get mad every time I grocery shop and all the items are in two languages.

— Thank you Rev. Franklin Graham for speaking out about gay marriage. All the president did was shake his fist at Almighty God. Many people are doing that today, and I just pray God will have mercy on us.

— I don’t see the problem with gay marriages. In fact, all marriages should be happy.

— I think it’s foolishness that movies and TV shows are being filmed in the Griffin area. If we allow these movies to be made in Griffin, we are contributing to the deterioration of moral values in our country because all of this stuff coming out of Hollywood these days is pure sin and abomination. We need real industry back in Griffin, not these filthy movies and TV shows.

— I find it disturbing that some of these liberal, “open-minded” people are all about open discussions but when you have an opinion that’s different from theirs (especially if you are conservative and Christian), they will jump all down your throat and then slam you for being “close-minded.”

— The NBA playoffs are going on, but is there anyone who really cares?

— Who is the person who keeps putting up these golf-cart signs all over town? I have never seen a golf cart on any of our roads or sidewalks. Is this some sort of practical joke?

— President Obama says it is OK for men to marry men. Next, we will be allowing people to marry dogs and cats.

You are right! We should not allow these heathens to do whatever they please behind closed doors when they are literally not seen or heard from anyone. We should make government as big as possible in order to make sure that actions that affect no one outside of two consenting individuals never happens!

Regarding Teachers Buying Supplies:

Some schools have everything they need. Some schools struggle to provide the necessities. It all depends on the principals, too. Priorities need to be considered. Some of the teachers are allowed to verbalize their needs to parents, and some are not allowed to do so. The businesses and other organizations can only help so much although they are always generous, but they usually have less money now. The teachers I have talked with always seem to need wipes, tissues, pencils, erasers, paper, and dry erase markers. They end up buying them usually. Planeman, teachers are up off their posteriors and working. Some parents who can't afford it always make certain their children have supplies. Some parents who have brand new cars and their nails done every week, tell teachers that the school must supply everything.Teachers are not allowed to say otherwise. Also, some students take great pleasure out destroying their supplies. There isn't just one or easy answer. Try to volunteer in a school and tell an administrator what you think.

Here we are in spalding county paying out more taxes than other counties such as henry, fayette and others and we have these kind of problems the government is stealing from us all here and nobody has the sense or guts to do anything about it except act stupid along with them.

The city is against the county the county is against the state the state is against the government and the government is against us all but I'm for getting out of here. I was just thinking about the time when I called the griffin manager about all the trash up and down 19-41 within the city limits and he blamed it on the state.

"Same sex marriage will lead to people marrying their pets." That's a new one I've never heard before. Funny how people opposed to same sex marriage have no other reason to back up their intolerance than this ridiculous statement. I am not "jumping down any conservative christian's throat," it is simply a fact that legislation is not based on the Bible. Marriage can be two things, to some it is a religious institution, which is perfectly fine. To other (gasp) non-Christians it is civil union that joins 2 people.

A lot of people fail to see that 'marriage' is actually comprised of two components...civil and religious. When a couple goes to the courthouse (civil institution)and gets a marriage license (civil contract) and has it signed by a judge (civil employee), the person is 'married' and has access to over 1,300 privileges, rights, and responsibilities. That has nothing to do with religion. At that point, the couple can then chose to add the religious component to their marriage...whether it be at a church, synagogue, mosque, beach, riverbank, etc. LGBT Americans are not trying to get access to the religious side of marriage, but access to the same civil rights, privileges, and responsibilities that heterosexual Americans get. Keep the religious component to yourself, as you chose, if you chose. But do not deny a group of citizens the same civil rights, responsibilities, and privileges just because you don't like who they are!

Here's an idea: We have many local churches--from the mega to the very small. It seems they all ask for donations to the food pantry weekly for items to be distributed to the less fortunate in Griffin. Wouldn't it be wonderful if these same churches would start donating the much needed supply to educate the young people of Spalding County--so that when they become adults--they will have a greater chance of not needing the soup kitchen or food pantry? There could be a panel elected or selected to ask these churches for specific items needed for the school system. It seems like that would be donating your money more wisely than just blindly giving to the general fund.

This is a wonderful idea idea! i believe there are organizations in addition to churches that would help. Great suggestion.

Many of the local churches are Partners-in-Education with our schools. Maybe teachers could be more vocal in requesting their help with specific needs.

70plus you are right. I went on Spalding Countys school system website and found this:

A list of our Partners In Education!

"Griffin-Spalding Partners in Education serves as the bridge between the students of Spalding County and the business and civic community. Through this organization, schools are given access to the wealth of resources and services in the private sector while businesses, civic organizations and other groups have a venue to help in the community as well as build their image in the community through recognition from the schools."

There is also a list of many fantastic local businesses---as well as national businesses. Some churches are on there. I'm not sure now how the schools could be lacking with so much support that is listed on that website.

From my experience, there are very few people in Spalding County who know how to speak English. Just for fun, try reading the Bible and realize that having items in multiple languages is consistent with the Gospels.

"All the president did was shake his fist at Almighty God".....No, what the president did was shake his fist at religious terrorist who think they can forcefully impose their beliefs on everyone and hide their bigotry and hatred behind the cross.

"Next, we will be allowing people to marry dogs and cats."....What a ridiculous and completely ignorant statement. Marriage is a contract between two consenting adults and the federal government. If you have a cat or dog that can give consent and sign a contract, then you have bigger problems than two consenting adults entering into a marriage contract.
