My Two Cents--May 24, 2012

— I think there should be two separate My Two Cents columns, one for us regular people and one for the stupid people.

— The upcoming T-SPOST is a two-faced example of the state that government has come to. The only reason our state legislators put it to a vote is to escape the blame of increasing taxes themselves. The state is divided into 12 districts for this vote. If a district votes no, the vote by law will return to the ballot in two years.

— On one side we have the Prius, “the vehicle of the intelligentsia,” and on the other, every man’s Ford F-150 pickup, year after year the No. 1-selling vehicle in America. It is telling that during the recent recession only Ford refused the bailout, while the rest are now wards of the state. The F-150’s popularity speaks more to providence than coincidence.

— My question is why people detest everyone who writes in, and call them morons. What does that make these people?

— To be able to vote in the July 31 elections, including voting against T-SPLOST, which will increase our taxes, you need to be registered. You only have until July 2 to get registered. If you decide not to vote, don’t complain later about the outcome.

— I still haven’t decided whether I think gay marriage should be legal. I have never seen a gay person, except for on TV.

— All these so-called reality shows are so much fake. They all have these so-called deadlines to meet with their project, whether it’s a car, house remodel, or dress. They are all the same. I’ve just had enough of it. They are as fake as WWE “wraslin.” Please networks, can’t you come up with something new? You are as fake as an Obama press conference.

Other Silent Bob, Griffin Yankee, Ga/Fl (I hope I haven't forgot anyone): I started researching as much as I could to try to debunk your arguement. I came across this article Gay Marriage: The Arguments and the Motives

A personal essay in hypertext by Scott Bidstrup

What can I say? I am a changed person. I hope you will accept my apology and I hope that the goal comes to fruition.

Julie - Thank you! I'm glad to see that you took it upon yourself to research the issues with an open mind. Too often, people are stuck on their beliefs and ideas and make no attempt to expand their knowledge and understanding of the issue. It is great to know that you have taken the first step towards your own understanding and enlightenment. Congratulations!

What is it with all this name-calling? When you do this, you reduce to zero the value of what you have to say. Calling people stupid or morons is something you should have outgrown by the time you finished kindergarten. Being a respected member of the human race requires that you respect the dignity of all human beings even when they don't, or can't, respect themselves. Let people have their say, and let's hear what you have to say without the insults.
