— I live in the county. My water is provided by the city, the only system available. Why is there a county water authority? The current contract is good through 2020. Yet, the county goes and hires the biggest law firm in Atlanta to represent them in rate negotiations for $7,500 for an “initial review,” while the city gets another “consultant.” This is the biggest waste of our taxes I’ve ever seen. This is the reason that the current officials need to be replaced as soon as their term expires for nothing else but being totally incompetent. When are we going to wake up and stop this waste? All these lawyer and consultant fees could be put to so much better use for the benefit of our city and county residents.

— I wish our school system would do what some other counties do — have open house on separate days for elementary, middle and high schools so that teachers that are parents can go to open house with their children. If the parents have to set up meetings with their children’s teachers, that could be as many as 10 or more meetings.

— Fewer furlough days in the Griffin Spalding School System! Hire two more administrative personnel. Paid for, among other things “positive changes in the local tax digest”. Folks they think Spalding county citizens are not smart enough to figure that this is going to be a tax increase.

— I think America’s Got Talent should hold auditions in Griffin.

— Why do people knowingly buy and build near an airport knowing full well the risks and noise and then want to limit the airport expansion and expect the taxpayers to fund an airport in another location so as to get rid of their annoyance and give it to other people meanwhile taking other property off the tax rolls? It seems kind of short sighted I think. Then I think of all the money it cost to improve GA Hwy 155 from near Jackson Road school to North McDonough Road including new land acquistions for portions of this improvement taking more property off the tax rolls and now the city takes over 155 in town so the state can take more property off the tax rolls by making North McDonough Road the new GA 155 and ruining quiet neighborhoods and destroying peoples’ yards, etc when the current route is very sufficent for the traffic GA 155 carries. I will be voting against the TSPLOST in July as to me these two items are a total waste of taxpayer’s money and property.

County still tweaking $87 million budget-- County officials were tweaking the proposed budget Monday to figure out how to spend what had been a $100,000 savings.

Am I the only one that read this story? Uh, why does it have to be spent? I would like to see my property taxes decreased instead. These commissioners need to keep in mind that we the tax payers are responsible for them keeping their "positions" & frankly I am sick to death of them holding their hands out. We as taxpayers have to budget & make cuts to our housholds so our "leaders" should have to do this as well.

Has anybody taken a look at the central office phone directory on our school system website? Count the names and think about the taxpayer's money paying their salaries. And, consider that there are others whose names aren't even listed. We are cutting teaching positions, cutting student attendance days, assigning furlough days, and increasing class size, but there is still plenty of money to run the "business". I notice the motto "Children first. . .Always" has been removed from the website homepage. Is this because it is no longer true? It's time for our state legislature to pass a law limiting the percent of the total budget that can be spent on central administration operating expenses because it obviously is not a priority for our school board.
